“Phua Chu Kang the Movie” Roadshows

After a decade of entertaining people through its sitcoms, the Phua Chu Kang show finally launches its very own movie! a show filled with much more PCK humour than ever!

Golden Village Pictures engaged me for the roadshows to promote the movie. A total of 4 locations (Jurong Point, Junction 8, Downtown East & Esplanade Exchange), with lots of eager fans interacting with the hilarious trio – PCK (Gurmit Singh), Rosie (Irene Ang) and Lim Lau Pek (Henry Thia). we even got them to sing a National Day song too!

I must say it was so good working with Gurmit again. He’s such an professional entertainer. Not only is he hilarious, but despite him not feeling well on the last roadshow, he still made the effort to turn up! He really is a role model for me. I also admire Irene Ang and Henry Thia, for being so quick witted no matter the scenario.

I also want to say a big thank you to the “princesses” from Golden Village Pictures – Li Ling, Kelly and Song Ting! Thank you so much for giving me the chance to work on this project. You girls were so fun to work with! Hope I get to see all 3 of you again soon!

Cathay’s 75th Anniversary Celebrations

A month long celebration for one of the 1st cinema companies in S’pore – Cathay. Cathay’s 75 this year, and they deserve nothing less than a huge birthday bash! I was honoured to have emceed for 3 of their events…

We started off with a 75 hour movie marathon.. who would have thought watching movies could be so torturing! I mean it’s one thing to watch a lousy movie and wish u weren’t in the theatre, but it’s another to watch movies until your brain functions start to retard! Insane! I am glad there were still some very sporting people willing to go through all that for fun (and for the prizes too!).

Next came the Amazing Cathay Race, where teams of 3 drove round to various Cathay locations to complete certain tasks, and be the 1st to cross the finish line. The winners won themselves a gigantic key!! Nah kidding. They won themselves a brand new car! Kia Cerato Forte worth $47K! Man. If I wasn’t hosting, I would have taken part in it myself!

Then lastly we had the Kiss of Eternity! Couples joined as teams and they were made to go through a series of mini-games to determine ranking of teams, then one member of each couple would kiss a mock-up diamond for as long as they can. Last person standing wins it for the team! The grand prize: $75K worth of diamond jewelry!! And it’s somehow fitting that the last person ‘kissing’ was the only girl kissing the diamond. She lasted more than a day! How’s that for girl power??

Overall Cathay had a celebration befitting of a company that has brought 75 years of entertainment to the masses. A big “THANK YOU” to Ron and Avivar for engaging me for the projects and being so darn professional in their work, and to Sabrina and her colleagues from Cathay for being so lovely to work with. I can’t wait for their next birthday bash! Till then, Happy Birthday, Cathay!!

Spongebob SquareCup (Singapore)

After having so much fun hosting Spongebob Squarecup in KL, I was definitely looking forward to the same event here in Singapore! Once again we invited schools and public to participate in this life-sized foosball tournament and the carnival games… and they certainly enjoyed themselves, despite the warm weather at Ngee Ann City Civics Plaza!

On top of the crazy foosball challenge, the crowd was very eager to take part in the stage games, where like always, the winner gets slimed!! It’s always my favourite part of Nickelodeon events. haha…

Oh and of course, no surprise that the crowd went wild when the superstars Spongebob and Patrick made their appearances!

The event was a blast! All thanks to Nickelodeon for organising, Avivar for the solid event-planning and execution, the hardworking crew, and of course the schools and public who took part. Special thanks to Shane & Allison for giving me the chance to be part of the fun all over again! here’s to the next Nick event! Nick Nick Hooray!

Singapore World Cup Festival 2010

The World Cup fever had scorched this little island of S’pore! Hence, the highly anticipated Singapore World Cup Festival 2010, held at Siloso Beach, Sentosa! Lovely atmosphere, with the sea breeze bringing balance and serenity to a night of feverish fun! I was honoured to have hosted for the 2nd night, where the 2 matches being screened were Germany Vs England, and Argentina vs my beloved Mexico (who unfortunately lost). The fans were in good spirits, even before the match – dancing, cheering and chatting with great music and percussion performances on stage.

I was supposed to have emceed for all the match screenings for the the round of 16 and the Quarter Finals. Unfortunately, the event had to be cancelled after the 1st night I hosted there. Nonetheless, I shall always remember this event… partly because I’m documenting it now on my blog. Haha… and also because of the sheer magnitude and ambience of the event.

Till the next World Cup,  I hope! OLE!! *Vuvuzela horns*

HP Service Centre Family Day

Despite having to wake up so early in the morning, I was looking forward to this event quite a lot. I really love the carnival atmosphere in events, where people come together and have fun. No uneasiness, no restrictions.

HP Service Centre held their Family Day at SAFRA Mt Faber on 5th June… both the ballroom and MPH were packed with carnival game stalls for the 300 – 400 people to enjoy. Caricature, sand art, henna painting, bouncy castle, mini-sports and many more. Throughout, I could see many were busy trying every activity possible! Long queues were seen at the various booths!

I was also very heartened by the amazing sporting spirit that the people had. They were very participative in the “Workout” dance i choreo-ed, and I had the luck of getting very funny and sporting people to play my stage games and telematch as well! especially the game In Control where 3 teams of 2 people, had to arrange themselves to match the pose on the screen. You can tell they just wanted to have fun, hysterically exaggerating some poses! Breakdancing, doing splits… and i loved it when some of them were sporting enough to try the last handstand pose!! hahaha I don’t think I have ever laughed so hard at my own stage games before.

And of course, I think the people who had the most fun were the folks who took part in the amazing race!

The lucky draw is really the part where EVERYONE gathered together! hahaha it’s amazing how much the prizes mean to the people! Everytime i called out for a number and asked “TIO BOH??” (hit, or not?), the crowd would just reply  ”BOH TIO!!” (no hit!)…

A big thanks to Bee See, Shupei, Julia, Paul and the part-timers from Design & Marketing! So glad you guys roped me in for this. Always loved working with you guys. Also thank you to Tamil and the organising committee from HP Service Centre for being such great people to work with! In addition, I could not be more grateful to have Gerard with all his 37 years of DJ experience at the sound console. He was the man! Thanks Carry On Sound for being so reliable with the sound equipment! One more big shout-out to Pei Jun from SAFRA (thanks for the hospitality) and the facilitators for the Amazing race (wacky bunch added to the atmosphere)! I look forward to more chances to work together!
